I've recently discovered this website: www.betterbidding.com aptly named "Priceline and Hotwire forum".
First of all I guess I should explain what Priceline and Hotwire are. Both sites offer deals on hotels and motels for online bookings, unlike most sites these two in particular have some special qualities.
Priceline is the trickier of the two, so I'll explain it first.
On Priceline you can book like any other travel website, but in addition to that you can also choose to "name your own price" on a hotel. Now, how this works is you choose a specific city, and date range. Then you pick a specific area within that city (if applicable), and a Star rating for your hotel of choice. Next Priceline asks your Personal & credit card info, and attempts to find you a room for "your price". If succesful, it will notify you which hotel you have been booked at and will give you confirmation and final prices. Sound good? Well, why not? You can save more than 50% using this method, but you have no way of knowing which hotel you are going to get. Well, this is where the betterbidding website comes in to play.
First, I'll explain how Hotwire works.
On Hotwire you pick your city and date range, and then it gives you a list of hotels and prices complete with star ratings and ammenities included. You choose which hotel works for you and complete the booking process. No way to know for sure which hotel you are going to get, unless of course...
Yes, of course I'm getting to it. The betterbidding website is filled with useful information. First of all it provides you with a hotel list of all the hotels which have been won by users using either Priceline or Hotwire. It notes the star level, area, and if applicable any user reviews. The site also has a great "calendar of wins" resource which allows you to see dates in the past and future where members have "won" hotels, and at what price. This provides you a starting point for your own bidding.
I have used this resource in the past to book a hotel for Vegas, pretty much last minute. I did extensive research, and it was by far the cheapest way to get a hotel on the strip so last minute. I was worried about getting a small, no-name joint with bad service, but it all worked out in the end.
I highly recommend this very useful and informative tool to anyone planning a vacation in the future. Plus, the more users that log on and benefit from the forum, the more likely we are to have more information to work from in the future. Win-Win for everyone!
